Critérium du Dauphiné 2020 Start List Is Filled with Stars of Pro-Racing

By Monica Buck

The dates might have changed but the race itself still serves as an important marker in the run-up to the Tour de France. Many of its previous winners have gone on to stand on the highest step of the podium in Paris. And with the star-studded line-up, this year’s Critérium du Dauphiné shall reveal the Tour’s favourites as well. It all starts tomorrow on Wednesday 12 August in Clermont-Ferrand.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the race is only five days long instead of the usual eight this year. However, each of those five stages is a tough mountain stage and they all end with a summit finish. Sounds like a hell lot of fun, doesn’t it?

The defending champion, Jakob Fuglsang, decided to focus on different races this year. Instead of him, Miguel Ángel López will lead the Astana team. He will be challenged by the Team Ineos’ celebrity line-up: Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, Egan Bernal, they are all coming. And to challenge them, there will be the likes of Primož Roglič, Steven Kruijswijk, Tom Dumoulin, Nairo Quintana, Warren Barguil, Rigoberto Urán, Adam Yates, Thibaut Pinot, Julian Alaphilippe, Emanuel Buchmann, Romain Bardet… The list just goes on and on.

Who do you favour for the win? One thing is certain – the cycling fan cannot lose here.
