A Deadline’s Been Set to Decide Whether the Tour de France Will Take Place and Other News from the World of Cycling

By Monica Buck

Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it. So, what did you miss?

The Tour Due Date

May 15 is the final deadline to decide whether the 107th edition of the world-famous race will be held. Belgian broadcaster RTBF interviewed two French mayors, who revealed that May 1 would also be an important date. It will be the day when ASO will decide whether the Tour can go ahead as planned.

We have to wait until May 1, which should be a pivotal date. At least that’s what Christian Prudhomme told me. We’ll see then if we’re still in lockdown. Then there will still be time to decide whether to cancel or postpone. But frankly, he didn’t seem very concerned,” said Stéphane Villain, the deputy mayor of Châtaillon-Plage, which will host stage 11.

Thereve been talks of the possibility to host the race without fans. For the moment, however, this seems to be just a rumour. We’ll keep you up to date as things develop.
