“I’m Back in Life and Super Happy”: Reusser Seals Dominant Tour de Suisse Victory on Home Roads

By Monica Buck

Swiss powerhouse Marlen Reusser (Movistar) delivered a masterclass in tactical racing to claim the final stage and overall title at the Tour de Suisse Women, leading from start to finish across the four-day race. Her triumphant solo victory on Stage 4, finishing on the shores of Lake Lucerne, capped off a comeback story that’s as emotional as it is impressive.

“I’m back in life and super happy and today I don’t think about last year,” Reusser said, referencing the injury and illness struggles that derailed her 2024 season.

Stage 4: Küssnacht > Küssnacht – 129.4km of Swiss precision

The final stage played out like a cinematic finale. After setting a brutal pace up the decisive final climb, Reusser led a whittled-down group of four riders into the last 15 kilometres.

When Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM-zondacrypto) launched a daring attack on the descent, Reusser let Demi Vollering (FDJ-SUEZ) do the chasing. Then, on a short rise, the Swiss rider struck. With one explosive move, she broke clear and never looked back, crossing the line 28 seconds ahead of Niewiadoma. Vollering rounded out the podium in third, both on the stage and in the final GC.

A masterclass in control

Despite having just one teammate for support in the closing kilometres, Reusser looked utterly composed. She dictated the pace on the 9% gradients of the final climb, shredding the peloton and neutralising any attacks before they could even begin.

Vollering, seemingly off her best, drifted backwards on the climb and couldn’t match Reusser’s strength or timing when it mattered most.

“It’s great, I’m really, really happy,” Reusser said at the finish. “I think we have a rivalry the whole year and I’m making so many steps at this moment, and I think I’m really developing a lot and I think it will keep being interesting,” she added of her ongoing battle with Vollering.

The road ahead

With the Giro d’Italia Women and Tour de France Femmes just around the corner, Reusser’s performance in Switzerland sets up a tantalising summer showdown among the sport’s top GC contenders.
