Jumbo-Visma Want to Win All Three Grand Tours in 2023

By Monica Buck

Jumbo-Visma have unveiled their formidable line-up for the 2023 Vuelta a España, a roster that boasts the firepower of Jonas Vingegaard and Primož Roglič as co-leaders. Both riders have showcased an impeccable performance this season, with Vingegaard claiming the Tour de France title and Roglič securing victory at the Giro d’Italia. With the two Grand Tours already in their bag, Jumbo-Visma are setting their sights on the Vuelta, aiming to achieve the remarkable feat of winning all three Grand Tours in a single year.

Marc Reef, Jumbo-Visma’s sports director, exudes confidence and ambition for this edition of the Vuelta. “With an aim to complete a unique trilogy, it is only apt to declare our goal with such a strong and versatile eight-man team,” Reef stated. He added that both Vingegaard and Roglič are in prime shape and are being groomed to tackle the Spanish race on equal footing.

Roglič’s lead-up to the Vuelta included some well-deserved rest after the Giro, followed by altitude training and participation in the Tour of Burgos. On the other hand, Vingegaard took a hiatus post his Tour de France triumph but soon resumed training, showing promising signals. “Both riders have showcased their prowess, and the ultimate aim is to have one of them don the red jersey in Madrid,” Reef emphasized.

The duo will be flanked by a strong supporting cast, including Sepp Kuss and Wilco Kelderman, two seasoned climbers who have already made a mark in previous Grand Tours. Kuss, despite facing a setback with a crash during the Tour de France, has shown remarkable resilience and is back to his optimal form. Kelderman, having played a significant role in the Tour, is expected to replicate his efforts in the mountains of Spain.

The roster is further fortified with the inclusion of Dylan van Baarle who will be pulling off the Tour-Vuelta double. Attila Valter, Jan Tratnik, and the seasoned Robert Gesink round off the team. Each brings a unique skill set, and their versatility will be crucial, particularly with the team time trial kickstarting the race in Barcelona.
