Mark Cavendish Wins the Škoda Green Jersey and Other Cool News from the World of Cycling

By Monica Buck

Another Monday is here, and so is our news from the world of cycling. So, what did you miss?

Cavendish’s amazing comeback

It looked like a perfect set-up. Mark Cavendish won 4 stages this year and equalled the Eddy Merckx’s record of 35 stage victories. And with the Deceuninck – Quick-Step dominance, everyone expected him to break the record on the grandest stage of them all, the Champs-Élysées.

However, it was not meant to be and it was Wout van Aert who claimed the last stage win. And with it an impressive hat-trick straight out of a by-gone era. Winning a bunch sprint, a mountain stage and a time trial. A truly impressive feat.

Back to Mark Cavendish. He might have finished third on the Champs-Élysées but that still sealed his Škoda Green Jersey victory. Winning the points competition is a mighty achievement on its own and Cavendish only won it for the second time in his whole career.

Do you expect him to be back next year to take that 35th win? Can’t think of anything that could stop him.
