Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it. So, what did you miss?

Strava releases its global figures

Despite the nation-wide lockdowns all around the world, the amount of cycling, running and walking activities uploaded to Strava has seen a huge increase. In comparison with 2019, the figures have doubled almost everywhere.

Simon Klima, Director of International Marketing at Strava, told The Guardian the increase far surpassed Strava’s projections. He went on to acknowledge that women had a large part to play in this increase and attributed it in part to reduced traffic during the lockdown.

“We’ve seen a real boost from women in terms of overall activity levels during the pandemic year,” Klima explained. “There could be several reasons for that but in the past, our research has found that one of the biggest cycling blocks for women is the perceived safety risk. But during the pandemic, women perhaps felt safer to take to their bicycles thanks to some temporary infrastructure improvements and quieter roads.”
