Rest Day Fever and Other Cool News from the World of Cycling

By Martin Winter

Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it! So, what did you miss?

Bardet offers apology to Chris Froome

The Frenchman showed great sportsmanship today when he publicly apologized to the overall leader for the fans who booed Froome during Sunday’s stage.

“I heard that Froome had been abused at times during yesterday’s stage. I’m sorry about that. He is a champion and he deserves respect. I respect him as a rival and he does not deserve this sort of treatment,“ the Ag2r La Mondiale rider told L’Equipe.

Christopher Froome celebrates on the podium retaining the overall leader’s yellow jersey following the 15th stage of the 104th edition of the Tour de France, 16 July 2017.

Froome himself didn’t seem to be affected by the loud boos at all, though.

“It’s to be expected if it is basically the home stage of Bardet. So it’s understandable that all the locals here support him. The support has been great so far, and I want to thank the people who’ve come out already,” Froome commented on the incidents.
