GALLERY: Teens of Sicily Found a Way to Carry Car Stereos on Their Rides

By Monica Buck

Tuning is a word usually associated with cars. These youngsters from Sicily, however, decided to apply the same concept to their bicycles. They spend anything up to €1,300 customising their bikes. Putting on thunderous sound systems connected to car batteries, they throw weekly parties in the streets of Palermo.

The police are not particularly impressed with their efforts. Locals often complain because the sound systems shake the glass in their windows as the “gang” rides by. That’s why the group’s get-togethers outside Palermo’s Brancaccio mall often get interrupted. The police officers usually threaten to confiscate the sound systems, so the riders disperse. Only to reconvene on the other side of the city.
