Bernal Set on Winning the Giro and Other Cool News from the World of Cycling

By Monica Buck

Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it. So, what did you miss?

Chris Froome believes Egan can win

Team Sky’s Colombian talent caught everybody’s attention last year with his spectacular performances. The most notable one came on stage 12 of the Tour de France when Bernal rode at the front for 8km of the Alpe d’Huez climb and dropped Nairo Quintana. In 2019, he is supposed to lead his first Grand Tour. Could he win the Giro in only his second World Tour season?

“When you talk to Egan, you struggle to believe he is so young,” Chris Froome said in an interview for Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera. “He has a maturity and an incredible ability to read the race. For me, he can win it at the first attempt.”

Geraint Thomas, however, has unfinished business in Italy. The Welshman crashed out in 2017, and the 2019 course should suit him as well, Froome claims.

Is it going to be another victory for Team Sky?
