Fred Wright of Team Bahrain Victorious: “I just think of calories in tubs of Ben and Jerry’s“

By We Love Cycling

Fred Wright is a British professional cyclist, originally from southeast London, currently riding for Team Bahrain Victorious, which recruited him in 2019. He began his career as a track cyclist, winning a gold medal in the team pursuit at the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.

During his road cycling career, for example, Wright won stage four of the 2020 Giro d’Italia Virtual, came first in the 2021 National Under-23 Championships, and 2022 marked his breakthrough year as he took top-10s in both the Tour de France and the Tour of Flanders. So far in his career, he has shown his talent in both one-day races and stage races, and is considered a rising star in the sport with sprint as his speciality.

With Matt, they spend some time on the takedown of the stunning Tour of Flanders 2023 with its many twists and turns in which Fred certainly played his part. Then came the deep dive into the then-upcoming Paris-Roubaix, which is Fred’s dream race to win, and the two then continued with how things have changed nutrition- and tactic-wise in pro cycling over the last few years.

Furthermore, they touched on Fred’s current fuelling and training strategy, how essential is to know your breakaways, the dreaded Arenberg of Paris-Roubaix, and how “every day is a school day in a bike race.”
