Deutschland Tour Is Gearing Up – And You Can Win a Spot at the Starting Line

By Frantiska Blazkova

Germany is slowly getting ready for the country’s only elite stage race – the Deutschland Tour 2022. With several world’s best teams confirming attendance, such as BORA – hansgrohe, Jumbo-Visma, INEOS Grenadiers, UAE Team Emirates, Bahrain-Victorious and more, all road cycling enthusiasts can look forward to five action-packed August days. And for eager amateur cyclists, there’s also the Jedermann Tour, ridden on the last stage of the Deutschland Tour, open to anyone brave enough – which could also be you.

Albeit only five days long, taking place between 24th and 28th August, the Deutschland Tour’s 710-kilometre course with 11,000 metres of altitude will test the versatility of the riders to the max. For the first time, the race features a prologue – and explosively fast and picturesque 2.7-km urban time trial through the centre of Weimar, a city in the Free State of Thuringia. From there, the riders will be working their way through four stages towards the finish line in the capital of Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart. As mentioned earlier, versatility will be key for the riders as the race features all the staples of a breathtaking road event – a sprint finish, a selective finish lap, a mountain finish and a classic course – so anyone from sprinters to puncheurs will have a chance to shine.

Naturally, such a prominent race has spawned multiple accompanying events, such as the Mini Tour for kids, the Expo Tour for up-and-coming talent, and the Jedermann Tour, the largest and most tempting one for amateur cyclists. Literally meaning “ everyman’s tour”, the Jedermann Tour invites anyone, man or woman, with the stamina and suitable bicycle to join. Taking place in and around Stuttgart on 28th August, the amateurs will take on the fourth stage of the Deutschland Tour before the pros finish on it later the same day. There are two tempting courses to choose from, either the shorter “Weinbergrunde” (57 km) or the longer tour “Durch die Region Stuttgart” (116 km). According to estimates, about 3,000 cyclists will gather on the Jedermann Tour’s starting line – and five of those could be our readers.

We have recently launched a contest on our Instagram with simple entry rules – tag your favourite cycling fan in the comments, make sure they follow We Love Cycling’s Instagram, and you or them could win one of the five race entries for the Jedermann Tour we are offering. Škoda is sending their own team to the race so all winners would become a part of it, which means professional service, treatment, and equipment. If Lady Luck won’t send you to the starting line, there are still five Deutschland Tour official Green Jerseys to be won. Enter our draw, and who knows – we might cover you in an article as the next Jedermann winner!
