The first half of the 2014 Tour has been filled with drama as Alberto Contador joined Chris Froome and Mark Cavendish on the list of heavy favourites forced to abandon the race prematurely, in addition to other racers whose hopes ended early.<\/p>\n

Swiss Mathias Frank of IAM Cycling finished stage 7 before heading to the Tour mobile medical clinic and then to the CHUR in Nancy where his road to victory came to a hault.<\/p>\n

Mark Cavendish was first from the Tour podium candidate shortlist out of the race. “I’m absolutely devastated,” proclaimed Cavendish.<\/p>\n

Mark Cavendish’s mother Adele and British Prime Minister David Cameron could be seen wincing as they watched the drama unfold during the opening stage in Yorkshire where Cavendish’s mother lives.<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Alberto Contador knee injury after a fall during the tenth stage of the Tour ended his chances of victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

Germany’s Paul Voss, Belgium’s Jurgen Van Den Broeck and Estonia’s Tanel Kangert lie after a fall during the seventh stage.<\/p>\n

Belgian Jurgen Van Den Broeck of Lotto flipped his bike and went off the wet cobblestone road during the fifth stage, leaving him out of contention.<\/p>\n
