You could say that the spirit of Tadej Poga\u010dar inspired the first three stages of this year’s Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift (TdFFaZ). In stages 1 and 2, Lorena Wiebes of SD Worx\u2013Protime demonstrated Pogie-like dominance, while stage 3 was won with a 90km solo by Norwegian champion Sigrid Ytterhus Haugset, riding for the surging WorldTour newcomers, Uno-X Mobility. A dominant sprinter who climbs\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Quick, what cyclist is the same age as Poga\u010dar, will never win a Grand Tour, yet has won more races than the five-time Tour winner? Of course, it’s Wiebes, who now has racked up 133 victories in her career, to Poga\u010dar’s 127, and is rightly regarded by many as the best female cyclist in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday’s opening stage in Lausanne, Switzerland, she had to do some 1,700 meters of climbing, especially at the end, and then easily outsprinted Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance\u2013Soudal) and a bunch of GC contenders \u2013 because all the sprinters had been left behind on the final climb (2.6km @ 4.6%). GC co-favorite Demi Vollering (FDJ United\u2013SUEZ) finished third. That gave Wiebes the first yellow jersey of the race and a lead in the green jersey competition, which she is favored to win.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
