Lotte Kopecky claimed victory at Milan-San Remo Donne with a perfectly timed sprint on the Via Roma, describing it afterwards simply: \u201cIt was a really hard race.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The world champion was part of the decisive move on the Poggio and finished it off from a reduced front group, beating Noemi R\u00fcegg and Eleonora Gasparrini after a tense run-in to the line.<\/p>\n

The race built steadily before exploding on the final climb, just as Kopecky expected. \u201cThe positioning was super important,\u201d she said, underlining how crucial it was to be near the front before the Poggio.<\/p>\n

That tension turned into chaos on the descent of the Cipressa, where a high-speed crash on a blind bend brought down several riders, including Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney.<\/a> \u201cIf you don’t take risk, it’s not topsport,\u201d she later reflected. Niewiadoma escaped relatively lightly, explaining, \u201cI’m fortunate to get out of it with road rashes and bruises only,\u201d but her race was over. The incident was far more serious for some, with Debora Silvestri later revealing, \u201cI have five broken ribs and a micro fracture on the shoulder… could be a lot worse.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the front, however, the race moved on instantly.<\/p>\n
