If you haven\u2019t set at least one cycling goal you\u2019ll completely abandon by the 20th, are you even a cyclist?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s our definitive ranking of January ambitions: From delusional to vaguely achievable and how long you\u2019ll likely stick with each.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>1. \u201cI will ride every day.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Time until failure:<\/strong> 3.5 days<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This one always sounds noble. A romantic vision of daily dawn rides, personal growth, and maybe even a core. In reality, you\u2019ll ride January 1st, take a \u2018recovery\u2019 day on the 2nd, and by the 4th, it\u2019s snowing sideways and your bike is frozen to the shed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll briefly consider riding loops in the kitchen. You will not do this.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2. \u201cThis is the year I finally stretch after every ride.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Time until failure:<\/strong> 1 week<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll do it once. Maybe twice. You\u2019ll set up a yoga mat. It will arrive mid-April. You\u2019ll say it\u2019s an investment.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>6. \u201cI\u2019ll ride indoors AND outdoors \u2014 balance, baby.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Time until failure:<\/strong> Mid-January (indoors), then February (outdoors)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Great in theory. But after three icy commutes and one rage-quit from a virtual ride where someone named <em>FTP_BabyShark69<\/em> dropped you on a climb\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll be left with one dominant form of riding: staring blankly at your bike from the couch.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>7. \u201cI\u2019m going to fuel properly and track my macros.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Time until failure:<\/strong> The first time someone offers cake<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll start strong. Porridge. Hydration. Mid-ride snacks.<br \/>\nThen someone brings pastries to the group ride, and suddenly your spreadsheet is just sugar and vibes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll still say \u201cI\u2019m fuelling for recovery\u201d while eating leftover Toblerone. And now you\u2019re 40 km deep into a ride you call \u201cactive recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>9. \u201cThis is the year I finally learn to love Zone 2.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Time until failure:<\/strong> 0.0001 seconds into boredom<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s slow. It\u2019s steady. It\u2019s good for you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s also what a toaster feels like while it&#8217;s waiting. You\u2019ll do one perfect Zone 2 ride. You\u2019ll learn nothing. You\u2019ll return to chaos and caffeine, as nature intended.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>10. \u201cI found my helmet. That\u2019s enough.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Time until failure:<\/strong> This one\u2026 this one lasts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because sometimes, that <em>is<\/em> enough. In January, surviving the weather, the guilt, and the urge to become a different person overnight is a win.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You found the helmet. You showed up. You\u2019re basically a hero.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>January goals are like base layers: easy to pile on, harder to move in<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be kind to yourself. Celebrate the little wins. And remember: Any plan that survives past January 17th is basically elite-level commitment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ve got this.<br \/>\nOr you don\u2019t.
