The squad covered the 24.1km test around Figueres in 25:26, securing their 74th win of the season and underlining their iron grip on the peloton.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The victory also shuffled the overall standings: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/2025\/08\/25\/vingegaard-ends-grand-tour-victory-drought-with-hard-earned-win-on-vuelta-stage-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jonas Vingegaard<\/a> (Visma\u2013Lease a Bike) slipped back into the red jersey after his team finished second on the day, just eight seconds slower than UAE. Lidl-Trek, who looked on course for a famous win, ultimately settled for third at nine seconds behind.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Almeida: \u201cA perfect job\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Jo\u00e3o Almeida, now sitting equal on time with teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/2025\/08\/20\/what-are-uae-team-emirates-xrgs-plans-for-ayuso-and-del-toro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Juan Ayuso<\/a> in second overall, praised the squad\u2019s execution:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew we would be fighting for the win, but there\u2019s a lot of good teams here and we need to be realistic. I think we did a really perfect job and we deserve it as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Almeida emphasised that while the gaps are minimal, the performance boosts confidence heading deeper into the race. \u201cOf course, the gaps are small.
