Fifteen minutes later, you’re pedalling through a downpour so biblical you’re checking the forecast for frogs.<\/p>\n

Welcome to the reality of riding where the forecast is just a suggestion<\/em> and experience is your only real meteorologist.<\/p>\n

The forecast is a lie<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We\u2019ve all heard it: \u201cNo rain in sight for the next 50 kilometres.\u201d<\/em> What they meant<\/em> was: \u201cExcept for the one rogue cloud that’s somehow tracking your Strava route like it’s got beef.\u201d<\/p>\n

Forecasts might work for casual walkers and indoor brunchers. But for cyclists? The weather doesn\u2019t just change\u2014it attacks<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Reading the rain radar like it\u2019s a tarot card<\/strong><\/h2>\n

You squint at the radar app, tracing shifting blobs of colour like you’re decoding the Matrix.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a cloud… okay, it’s northeast… maybe it’s breaking up? Or reforming? Is that my town or Sweden?\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, your mate Dave doesn\u2019t check anything and somehow never<\/em> gets wet. Dave is a weather witch. Burn him.<\/p>\n

A \u201cDry Day\u201d is a trap<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Cyclists don\u2019t trust a sunny forecast. We respect it like a cat respects a cucumber: with deep suspicion.<\/p>\n

So we pack:<\/p>\n

  • A rain jacket<\/li>\n
  • An extra<\/em> rain jacket<\/li>\n
  • Waterproof socks<\/li>\n
  • Existential dread<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Because if you don\u2019t<\/em> bring them, it will<\/em> rain. That\u2019s not superstition\u2014it\u2019s science.<\/p>\n

    Trust issues on two wheels<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Your Garmin says \u201cPartly cloudy.\u201d
    \nYour jersey says \u201cPartly soaked.\u201d
    \nYour mood says \u201cCompletely furious.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Every cyclist has had that moment of betrayal: a calm morning ride turning into an accidental aquathlon, questioning why they didn\u2019t just Zwift like a sensible sad person.<\/p>\n

    The <\/strong>real weather report: Headwind and humility<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Let\u2019s be honest. For cyclists, the actual forecast goes like this:<\/p>\n

    • Wind:<\/strong> Always in your face<\/li>\n
    • Rain:<\/strong> Begins exactly when you\u2019re furthest from home<\/li>\n
    • Sun:<\/strong> Only appears once you\u2019re too wet to care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      It’s not weather. It’s a training partner with mood swings.<\/p>\n

      Dry is a mindset, not a guarantee<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      If you\u2019ve never had to wring out your gloves mid-ride or pedal home with squelching socks, have you even ridden<\/em>? The real rule of thumb is simple:<\/p>\n

      Trust your knees. Not the app. And always\u2014always\u2014pack the raincoat.<\/p>\n
