Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez) delivered another thunderous performance to snatch overall victory at the 2024 Itzulia Women, launching a devastating solo attack on the Mendizorrotz climb that left rivals trailing nearly a minute behind. The Dutch powerhouse erased a 19-second deficit to Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime) on the final stage and secured her third win at the Spanish race \u2014 a sweep of the country\u2019s stage races this season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Crushing climb, crushing result<\/strong><\/h2>\n

With 14km to go and the GC on the line, Vollering did what she does best: dropped the hammer on the steepest ascent of the day. Despite lingering muscle pain and lingering memories of cramping the day before, she tapped her helmet with signature swagger as she flew toward the finish line in Donostia, solo and untouchable.<\/p>\n

Behind her, Sarah Van Dam (Ceratizit-WNT) emerged from the chasing group to take second on the stage \u2014 and in doing so, claim her first-ever WorldTour GC podium. Justine Ghekiere (AG Insurance-Soudal), the polka dot jersey winner at last year\u2019s Tour de France Femmes, rounded out the day\u2019s podium.<\/p>\n

Bredewold, who had taken both opening stages in sprints, couldn\u2019t respond to the climbing firepower and slipped to second overall \u2014 48 seconds behind Vollering. For the second consecutive year, she came heartbreakingly close to her first WorldTour stage race title.<\/p>\n
