She grew up in a small Czech town, but her dreams are anything but small. Sabina Ko\u0161\u00e1rkov\u00e1 is tearing up BMX tracks and MTB trails around the world\u2014with medals, style, and serious grit. From pump track world champion to Olympic hopeful, she\u2019s proving that fearless riding and fierce focus can take you anywhere.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

She\u2019s fast, ferocious, and totally focused. Sabina Ko\u0161\u00e1rkov\u00e1 is not just riding\u2014she\u2019s ruling. With a world title in pump track, multiple European Championship podiums in BMX, and standout performances at Crankworx, this Czech rider is on a mission: the Olympics.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d pick BMX any day\u2014it\u2019s my number one goal because of the Olympic dream,\u201d says Sabina. \u201cMountain biking is fun, but BMX is where my heart is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Right now, all her energy is going into qualifying for the next Olympic Games.<\/a> To boost her chances, she\u2019s considering spending an entire winter training in Australia. \u201cI think it could move me forward a lot,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n

Her recent switch to a carbon frame shaved two kilos off her bike, and the difference is real. \u201cI can feel the extra speed at the start and more control over jumps,\u201d she says. Sabina still rides in the U23 category, giving her some time to adjust before stepping into elite ranks next season\u2014when she\u2019ll face two World Championships that could secure her ticket to the Games.<\/p>\n

Raised by the bike (and her dad)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sabina grew up in Stud\u00e9nka, Czech Republic. Her father Radek, a former BMX enthusiast from the 1980s, started coaching her at age nine. At first, he dreamed of shaping her into a cross-country racer\u2014but by twelve, it was clear her talent lay elsewhere.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was scared in the beginning, but I loved the jumps\u2014and I got better really fast,\u201d Sabina remembers. Her early days were spent constantly on the road, racing and training. She was never the type to need a push\u2014motivation came naturally. While her dad stressed himself into stomach ulcers from nerves, Sabina thrived on the race scene. Their relationship only got stronger once she moved from XC to BMX. \u201cI always listened to him. I still trust him 100 per cent. If he tells me I can hit a jump, even a twelve-meter one\u2014I know I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGet mad and go!\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One of her favourite pieces of advice from her dad? \u201cSabina\u2014get mad and go!\u201d<\/em> It still echoes in her head whenever a race isn\u2019t going her way.<\/p>\n

Riding with boys from a young age helped her build confidence in the air. \u201cWhatever the boys jumped, I wanted to jump too,\u201d she says. And what does she do better than the boys? \u201cCorners. I always find my own line.\u201d BMX is about adrenaline, community, and travel\u2014all things Sabina thrives on.<\/p>\n

Injuries and iron will<\/strong><\/h2>\n

BMX is rough. Sabina\u2019s had her share of injuries, including a painful collarbone fracture. \u201cI\u2019ve made peace with the fact that the screws are probably staying in there for the rest of my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her biggest trouble now? A nagging wrist injury involving the scaphoid bone. The surgery didn\u2019t go well, and another operation comes with a 50\/50 risk. \u201cEven with regular rehab, the pain is tough. It hurts every single day,\u201d she admits.<\/p>\n

Free time? What\u2019s that? If Sabina isn\u2019t training or racing, she\u2019s hitting the books. But if someone could magically give her a few extra hours, she\u2019d try snowboard cross too.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just legs, it\u2019s a mind game<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u201cWhat sets BMX apart from other cycling disciplines is the explosiveness and power,\u201d Sabina explains. She spends four days a week in the gym and devotes a serious chunk of time to track cycling, focusing on sprint work.<\/p>\n

But the real secret weapon? Her brain. \u201cMental training makes up 80 per cent of my preparation. I read books on motivation, focus, and the role of psychology in elite sports,\u201d she says. Quick reactions at the gate are crucial. \u201cYou can\u2019t make a mistake at the start. That\u2019s why I train my mind so hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

When motivation dipped, Sabina found guidance in books by British sports psychologist Bill Beswick and Czech coach V\u00e1clav Petr\u00e1\u0161.<\/p>\n

More girls. More power.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sabina\u2019s noticed a shift\u2014more girls are riding BMX and embracing high-adrenaline sports. Her message to young women thinking of trying it?<\/p>\n
