The UCI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uci.org\/pressrelease\/granting-of-last-uci-womens-worldtour-licence-and-18-uci-worldtour-licences\/4lDWyqsEi51J9vx3bHU7FA\">officially announced<\/a> what has been assumed for months, that Israel-Premier Tech and Lotto Soudal have been relegated from the WorldTour and replaced by the former ProTeams Alpecin-Deceuninck and Arkea-Samsic, who will now race in the sport\u2019s top level for the next three years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision was made last week on the basis of the number of UCI points garnered by the teams over the past three years and, the UCI said, \u201cfollowing a full review of the documentation received regarding different criteria for attribution,\u201d including ethical, financial, administrative and organizational. A total of 18 licenses were granted to teams to race on the WorldTour until the end of 2025, when another, similar selection will be made for the following three years. Lotto Soudal finished 19th in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lanternerouge.com.au\/2022\/05\/25\/worldtour-2020-22-team-ranking\/\">final points rankings<\/a>, almost 1,000 points behind the last team to make the cut, Arkea-Samsic. Israel-Premier Tech was a further 1,000 points adrift.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, Lotto\u2013Soudal \u2013 which will be racing as Lotto Dstny in 2023 \u2013 will receive automatic invitations to WorldTour and Grand Tour races as the top ProTeam of 2022, as will Peter Sagan\u2019s Team TotalEnergies. The news is less rosy for Chris Froome\u2019s Israel-Premier Tech, which will need to be accorded wild card invitations to be able to race in the three Grand Tours.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-controller-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udce2NEWS: The collaboration with Ghent University is a next step for the team in the further professionalization of the team&#39;s performance department.<\/p>\n<p>Read more here \ud83d\udc47<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/t7Yp2F0VQN\">https:\/\/t.co\/t7Yp2F0VQN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Lotto Dstny (@lotto_dstny) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lotto_dstny\/status\/1603417392952102913?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 15, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async data-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Team owner Sylvan Adams had threatened to take the UCI to court, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/2022\/09\/21\/teams-scramble-to-avoid-relegation\/\">arguing<\/a> that cycling\u2019s ruling body should have evoked \u201cforce majeure\u201d because of the three-year Covid epidemic, and then expanded the WorldTour to 20 teams. The UCI did not agree, and so far there has been no news of a lawsuit over Israel-Premier Tech\u2019s relegation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The UCI also said in its press release, that Team DSM had been placed on a kind of probation, during which its second and third years will be \u201cconditional on the provision, during the season, of additional documents related to the financial criterion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The UCI also announced that it had granted 15 licenses to teams in the Women\u2019s WorldTour for 2023, including Israel Premier Tech Roland and Fenix-Deceuninck.
