Not long ago, we staked out a bold new goal for We Love Cycling magazine: to collect as many of the worst cycle lanes across the globe as we could and gather them in the biggest gallery of its kind. And thus, the Worst Cycle Lane in the World Gallery<\/a> was born! It\u2019s been driven purely by user submissions. Here\u2019s our selection of the \u2018best\u2019 entries from Italy!<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

With less motorized traffic and more bikes in the streets in general throughout 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a field of possibilities opened for many larger cities. For example, in the Italian city of Milan, a series of pop-up, temporary cycle lanes appeared<\/a> as part of a system called tactical urbanism, designed to instigate long-term change via short-term action. As in other European countries, the so-called \u2018soft mobility\u2019 has been booming across Italy in the past two years. The government reacted, for example, by enacting the Mobility Bonus<\/a>, meant to offer subsidies of up to 500 euro to citizens wanting to buy a bike or an e-scooter. But there are still issues to work out as our gallery below can testify.<\/p>\n
