With no championship of this kind being held in over a year, I knew I couldn\u2019t miss this challenge. On June 4th \u2013 June 8th I would join the race.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nAs the weather outside wasn\u2019t ideal for training and my usual spot was still closed due to Covid-19, the little space I had at home had to suffice. However, these small obstacles couldn\u2019t stop me. When I was leaving for Montpellier at the beginning of June, I felt pretty confident.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-controller-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">60sec of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TISSOT?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TISSOT<\/a> action! \ud83d\udd50<\/p>\n<p>Check out the best moments from Day 5\ufe0f\u20e3 at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Montpellier2021?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Montpellier2021<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KEAsjJwD4E\">pic.twitter.com\/KEAsjJwD4E<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; UCI BMX Freestyle (@UCI_BMX_FS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UCI_BMX_FS\/status\/1402729037664067589?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 9, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async data-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Emotions flooded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uci.org\/bmx-freestyle\/events\/uci-urban-cycling-world-championships\">this year\u2019s championships.<\/a> No one had raced in over a year due to Covid-19 and, most importantly, there were two spots for the <a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.com\/tokyo-2020\/en\/\">Olympic Games<\/a> in Tokyo up for grabs.<\/p>\n<p>The best riders from around the world arrived to take part in the race \u2013 what a show to watch! The winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/matthiasdandois\/?hl=en\">Matthias Dandois<\/a> showed a beautiful and perfectly handled ride. However, the absence of cheering spectators considerably transformed the race\u2019s atmosphere.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=IRfv7D4KMBU params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/IRfv7D4KMBU\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<p>My own performance didn\u2019t exactly go as planned, but I\u2019m still grateful for this valuable experience. I ended up in 14th position, right below the line to qualify. The organisers did an excellent job, and so did the participants \u2013 everyone respected the rules set to keep everyone safe, and in the end, there were no Covid-related complications. The perfectly organised schedule allowed everyone to train at a set time in a set place without risking contracting Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>Big thanks to We Love Cycling, the Czech Freestyle BMX
