If you watched the whole spectacle that is the Tour de France launch from Brest in northwest France, the sheer amount of colourful team cars surely did not escape your attention. It\u2019s no secret that these vehicles are indispensable to troubleshooting, comfort, and even success of each team and its riders. But what\u2019s the actual range of demanding tasks and issues the cars, many of them \u0160koda SUPERB iVs, and their crews have to deal with in the course of the approx. 11,000 kilometres they cover at the Tour?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s take it from the top. Almost without exception, two cars per team follow the peloton each year. Just to clarify, to \u201cfollow the peloton\u201d is not as simple as it might sound. As a driver, you have not only to keep your eyes peeled for the seemingly endless, tightly packed procession of other vehicles, motorbikes, spectators and, of course, cyclists, but your position within this hectic display is subjected to a strict hierarchy. The ranking of your team\u2019s leading rider determines the team\u2019s car position within the peloton, and the only person with the authority to give team cars (and any Tour car for that matter) the permission to break rank is none other than Tour director Christian Prudhomme.<\/a><\/p>\n
