{"id":181239,"date":"2021-01-18T09:45:27","date_gmt":"2021-01-18T09:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/?p=181239"},"modified":"2021-01-18T09:45:27","modified_gmt":"2021-01-18T09:45:27","slug":"equipment-changes-for-the-2021-worldtour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/2021\/01\/18\/equipment-changes-for-the-2021-worldtour\/","title":{"rendered":"Equipment Changes for the 2021 WorldTour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Every few years when contracts end, the cycling WorldTour experiences a veritable merry-go-round of equipment sponsorship changes driven by a number of motives such as money (of course), product innovation and changes in team ownership.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For example, in 2019 BMC Racing became CCC Team and switched to Giant, Team Sunweb moved from Giant to Cerv\u00e9lo and Dimension Data signed with BMC. This year sees a similar triangular upheaval involving Bianchi, Cerv\u00e9lo and Scott. Mitchelton-Scott will become GreenEdge Cycling, which is the name of the team&#8217;s operating company, and switch to Bianchi bikes. Jumbo-Visma will leave Bianchi and ride bikes from Cerv\u00e9lo while Team Sunweb rebrands to Team DSM, ending its partnership with Cerv\u00e9lo and leaving an opening for Scott to step through.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_181241\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-181241\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2021\/01\/Jumbo-Visma-bicycles-profimedia-0583993476.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-181241 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2021\/01\/Jumbo-Visma-bicycles-profimedia-0583993476-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Jumbo-Visma bicycles\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-181241\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Team Jumbo-Visma moves to Cerv\u00e9lo. \u00a9 Profimedia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But that\u2019s not all. French team AG2R Citro\u00ebn hops off Eddy Merckx bikes<u>\u00a0<\/u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/ag2r-citroen-team-to-ride-bmc-for-2021\/\">in favour of Swiss company BMC.<\/a> That\u2019s good news for the team\u2019s new signing<u>,<\/u> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/greg-van-avermaet\/\">Greg Van Avermaet<\/a>, who has enjoyed great success with the company\u2019s carbon-fibre bikes. \u201cI\u2019ve won Paris-Roubaix, the Rio Olympics and all my major victories on the BMC Teammachine SLR01,\u201d he said. \u201cThe AG2R Citro\u00ebn Team project was very attractive to me for various reasons and the chance to ride BMC again eventually made my decision an easy one to take.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The contract runs from 2021 to 2023 and three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/features\/bmc-road-bikes-range\/\">BMC road bikes <\/a>have been confirmed for training and racing duty: Teammachine SLR01, the Timemachine Road and the Timemachine. However, Atlanta-based Wahoo continues to attract pro cycling teams, adding two for a total of five.<\/p>\n<p>The two teams that used SRM computers in 2020 have changed, with Lotto-Soudal moving to Garmin and Cofidis choosing Wahoo. Team DSM also switched to Wahoo but from Sigma computers.<\/p>\n<p>Four teams have not yet confirmed their computer brands for 2021 so it&#8217;s possible that SRM, Sigma and Stages will retain a presence in the WorldTour but it remains to be seen for what teams.
