I grew up a road cyclist, and I\u2019m not ashamed to say \u2013 I never learned to bunny hop. I left it to my friends who never grew out of their BMXs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=ivZDL4WxpgE params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/ivZDL4WxpgE\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<p>The bunny hop is to cycling what the ollie is to skateboarding \u2013 a jump where both the vehicle and the rider move in apparent synchronicity so that both move as a whole. If done properly, the pedals appear to stick to the feet of the rider. It looks cool and Kyle claims April can learn it in a day.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=Q7reWhxakUQ params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/Q7reWhxakUQ\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<p>Kyle\u2019s detailed drills have me convinced that even I could learn to do it. I\u2019m just struggling to think of any practical application of this trick, though. If you could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/2019\/03\/20\/we-used-the-skoda-scala-for-a-winter-training-session\/\">jump on a bike<\/a>, what would you do?<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=K5XpNONcsNw params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/K5XpNONcsNw\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<p>The practical application for Danny MacAskill is that he earns decent sponsorship money making videos of himself jumping obstacles found in the ruins of a once-industrialised island community. That\u2019s not exactly going to help make your commute. I guess the benefits of bunny hopping are directly related to the kinds of obstacles you may want to avoid making contact with. A tour cyclist like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rcZOQBegrlU&amp;ab_channel=KevinC\">Nibali<\/a> uses bunny hops to avoid wet tarmac. And now I come to think of it, I wish I\u2019d learned to bunny hop before encountering those tramlines in Manchester.
