Sam Bennett arrived at the Tour with an ambition for stage wins. After a few near misses, however, it looks like he may be a challenger to the resident owner of the \u0160koda Green Jersey, the seven-time winner of the points competitions, Peter Sagan. Funnily enough, the Slovak is not the only one used to seeing himself in the green. After all these years of Peto riding the Tour in green, the fans around the route shouted \u2019Sagan!\u2019 at the current owner, Sam Bennett. But the Irishman didn\u2019t mind.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was amazing,\u201d Bennett said of stage 6 and his first-ever day in the \u0160koda Green Jersey. \u201cKind of funny at times, sometimes people thought I was Peter. They\u2019re not used to it. It was a lovely experience, I also heard my name being shouted a lot. Got a lot of support and all the lovely messages from people at home last night, to see the support I have from the Irish fans is great.”<\/p>\n

Bennett is now developing a plan for the points competition on the go and he found out that the \u0160koda Green Jersey is really not an easy target.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s actually hard work to try and get this jersey,\u201d the Deceuninck\u2013Quick-Step<\/a> rider explained. \u201cThere are three parts to watch: who gets in the break, who\u2019s going for the intermediate and then to do the final. It\u2019s very hard and I might start feeling it in the last week but we\u2019ll take it day-by-day and I\u2019ll try and go again tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

The seven-time winner of the points competition is not to be disregarded, though. Peter Sagan<\/a> sits in the second place now, trailing only 12 points. And Bennett is counting on the Slovak\u2019s experience to show in the final week of the Tour. Sagan already wore the jersey through stages 3, 4 and 5. And while he doesn\u2019t seem to be on top of his form right now, Bennett rightly points towards the length of the Grande Boucle.<\/p>\n
