In many countries, the regulations and restrictions are beginning to loosen and slowly ease back into pre-Covid-19 times. The same goes for our beloved hobby \u2013 cycling. But this recent experience showed us that there\u2019s a demand for the cycling community to stay connected, active and informed not only outdoor but also via social media. Besides hopping on home trainers and racing virtual cycling platforms, we\u2019ve noticed that cycling fans also love to sit back and consume all things related to life on two wheels. And that\u2019s why we will be bringing you the #Ride2Unite livestreams over the next few weeks, in cooperation with famous personas of the bicycling world.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We launched the first stream<\/a> last Wednesday and you could meet Wilco Kelderman of Team Sunweb. You can still view this stream in its entirety on the We Love Cycling Instagram<\/a>. Next on our menu is the Dutch ex-professional road cyclist Laurens ten Dam.<\/p>\n

Laurens started racing in 2000 and launched his pro career in the continental team of Shimano in 2005 and took a step up to the WorldTour level in the Rabobank GS3 team in 2009. Some of his best results include top ten places in the overall classifications of the Tour de France (9th place in 2014) and the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a, but he’s been known for being a strong and loyal domestique and he was part of Tom Dumoulin’s team when he won the 2017 Giro d’Italia. Besides Rabobank, we also rode under the colours of BankGiroLoterij, Unibet.com, LottoNL\u2013Jumbo, Team Sunweb and CCC Team.<\/p>\n

He retired from professional cycling after badly injuring his hip at the Tour of Austria in 2019, aged 38. He\u2019s been present on the pro road cycling scene for 16 years. “I will always keep cycling, but I will stop as a professional,” he said after the accident.<\/p>\n

In this edition of the #Ride2Unite series, Laurens will discuss in depth the switch from amateur to pro, his career highlights and hardships, Corona-time training, off-season fun and more.
