Another Monday is here and our news from the world of cycling with it. So, what did you miss?<\/strong><\/p>\n

UK public encouraged to do more cycling<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The UK government plans to reduce the demand for public transport as part of the social distancing measures. To help fight the coronavirus pandemic the public should take up cycling and walking. The government will provide a whopping \u00a32bn to make this happen. They will create pop-up bike lanes, safer junctions, cycle and bus-only corridors and wider pavements within a few weeks. Moreover, there will be vouchers available to help people pay for their bike repairs.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring this crisis, millions of people have discovered cycling,\u201d said Transport Secretary Grant Shapps. \u201cWhether for exercise or as a means of safe, socially distanced transport. While there is no change to the \u2018stay at home\u2019 message today, when the country does get back to work we need those people to stay on their bikes and be joined by many more.<\/p>\n

\u201cOtherwise, with public transport\u2019s capacity severely restricted at this time, our trains and buses could become overcrowded and our roads gridlocked \u2013 holding up emergency services, critical workers and vital supplies. We know cars will continue to remain vital for many, but as we look to the future we must build a better country with greener travel habits, cleaner air and healthier communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

A campaign with Team Ineos\u2019 stars Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas has also been launched. The Tour de France winners say to the viewers to #GetPedalling.<\/p>\n
