Only 1 in 50 cases are <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">being<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">solved<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">,<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> as the data of UK\u2019s government agency Home Office shows. The newspaper claims that even seemingly easy cases do not get solved. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Even if the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">police <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">are <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">presented with CCTV footage, witnesses or DNA evidence, the officers are simpl<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">y<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> unable to investigate.<\/span><\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p lang=\"cs-CZ\" align=\"left\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Telegraph\u2019s<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> report was published on the day a video of brazen bike thieves went viral on Twitter. The footage shows masked criminals using an angle grinder to steal several bikes despite onlookers trying to intervene. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">The thieves <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">even used the angle grinder to threaten the brave members o<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">f p<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ublic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/jonestowncoffee\/status\/1230104852908462081<\/p>\n<p lang=\"cs-CZ\" align=\"left\"><span lang=\"en-US\">One of the victims of the late<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">st <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">surge in bike stealing is Cambridge<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s A&amp;E doctor Michael Brooks. He told the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Telegraph<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> that his last bike was stolen in front of a pharmacy and the culprit <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">left<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> his rusty BMX behind. Dr. Brooks gave the bike to <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> police, so they could find a DNA match<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">which they did&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cThey had got a DNA match from the BMX but had not been round to interview the suspect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"cs-CZ\" align=\"left\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Last year, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">another<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> tw<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">o b<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ikes were stolen from Dr. Brooks at the Cambridge North railway station. The racks are right under <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">a<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> CCTV. Easy to solve, you think? Well, the police did not investigate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"cs-CZ\" align=\"left\">\u201c<span lang=\"en-US\">Cambridge<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s conviction rates are less than one per cent. At that rate, and at \u00a3200 per bike, it is a crime that pays well,\u201d Dr. Brooks explains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"cs-CZ\" align=\"left\"><span lang=\"en-US\">A spokesperson from British Transport Police, which disbanded its specialist bike crime unit last year, told the Telegraph: \u201cIn order to allow officers to prioritise the most serious crimes, which pose the most risk to the public, they use a screening process when investigating low-level crime such as bike thefts. There has been a national rise in violent crime, and it is right that we prioritise the deployment of our officers based on this to keep people safe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"cs-CZ\" align=\"left\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Crime gangs are now cashing in on the policy. Bike theft <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">is<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> a <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">less risky <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">alternative to drug dealing.
