The scheme allows doctors to offer patients with long-term conditions a 12-week cycle training. If it\u2019s deemed successful, it could be rolled out across the UK. The organization Cycling UK claims the trial showed riding a bicycle was good for overall well-being.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cCycling UK has always known cycling can help people with both their physical and mental wellbeing \u2013 and in West Yorkshire we&#8217;ve now got the evidence,\u201d Jenny Box, Cycling UK&#8217;s head of development, told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-england-leeds-50302472?ns_mchannel=social&amp;ocid=socialflow_facebook&amp;ns_source=facebook&amp;ns_campaign=bbcnews&amp;fbclid=IwAR3y-VSarKjWz2bwy5pcYdSXAtULzul8Bnt8LiOlioYwgB1gdMWP4bPKM8E\">BBC<\/a>. \u201cWe would love to be able to bring the gift of cycling to other parts of the country and help other people on to the path to recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_175466\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-175466\" style=\"width: 1250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/09\/london-1.profimedia-0468708292.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-175466\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/09\/london-1.profimedia-0468708292.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1250\" height=\"841\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-175466\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cycling commuters in London.\u00a0\u00a9 Profimedia, Alamy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Before joining the training, only 18% of participants were meeting the NHS activity guidelines of 150 minutes per week; that figure rose to 73% afterwards. The clients reported an increase in confidence and were feeling overall more relaxed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-england-leeds-50302472?ns_mchannel=social&amp;ocid=socialflow_facebook&amp;ns_source=facebook&amp;ns_campaign=bbcnews&amp;fbclid=IwAR3y-VSarKjWz2bwy5pcYdSXAtULzul8Bnt8LiOlioYwgB1gdMWP4bPKM8E\">BBC<\/a> talked to Dan, 31, who developed depression and anxiety after suffering a bereavement.
