The route copies the infamous \u2018Death Road\u2019, probably the most dangerous road in the world, which has claimed thousands of lives over the years. The riders start in the lowland jungles of Bolivia and finish on the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, climbing over 3,300 metres in the process.<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The 70-year-old took up cycling on the advice of her family and a psychologist to help her cope with a family tragedy. After the unexpected death of her son, Mirtha Munoz has cycled more and more and sees the extreme Skyrace just as a natural progression of her passion.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-controller-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">At 70, Mirtha Munoz is the oldest ever competitor in Bolivia\u2019s 37 mile bike race on the world\u2019s most dangerous road <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GVJyVJG0Xv\">https:\/\/t.co\/GVJyVJG0Xv<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xsRyU6Mzq9\">pic.twitter.com\/xsRyU6Mzq9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Reuters (@Reuters) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Reuters\/status\/1181275499932180481?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 7, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async data-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>\u201cHe (the psychologist) told me&#8230; the bike could help me get through my pain, and to rebuild,\u201d she said to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Overcoming the fog, rockslides and cliffs of the \u2018Death Road\u2019, however, isn\u2019t Munoz\u2019s idea of a perfect ride.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a vertical climb, you go up and up and there\u2019s no rest,\u201d she admitted after finishing the race.<\/p>\n<p>She rather enjoys cycling in the company of her 6 grandchildren.
