She rode from Burgas on the Eastern coast of Bulgaria to Brest in France in 10 days, 2 hours and 48 minutes.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Kolbinger was one of 40 women setting off in the 265-rider starting field. It was the seventh edition of the race, which was founded by British long-distance cyclist Mike Hall. The contestants are free to choose their own route, but must pass through four control points. Each checkpoint is accompanied by a specific challenge, such as high-altitude climbs or gravel tracks. Col du Galibier, featured in this year\u2019s edition of the Tour de France, was one of the challenges.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_174916\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-174916\" style=\"width: 1250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/08\/Fiona-kolbinger-profimedia-0462615615.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-174916\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/08\/Fiona-kolbinger-profimedia-0462615615.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1250\" height=\"781\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-174916\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fiona Kolbinger crosses the finish line and wins the Transcontinental Race.\u00a0\u00a9 Profimedia, AFP<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was coming into the race, I thought that maybe I could go for the women\u2019s podium, but I never thought I could win the whole race,\u201d Kolbinger said at the finish line on Tuesday. \u201cI think I could have gone harder. They\u2019ve suffered under the scorching sun, freezing rain, and rode through thunder and lightning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The medical student at the paediatric oncology department at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg finished 7 hours ahead of her nearest rival, Ben Davies. Her time, however, wasn\u2019t record-breaking.
