{"id":174126,"date":"2019-06-07T14:01:55","date_gmt":"2019-06-07T14:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/?p=174126"},"modified":"2019-06-07T14:02:19","modified_gmt":"2019-06-07T14:02:19","slug":"the-weirdest-bikes-of-them-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/2019\/06\/07\/the-weirdest-bikes-of-them-all\/","title":{"rendered":"The Weirdest Bikes of Them All"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>There is a saying, popular in the U.S., that is often used by people like me when they don\u2019t want to be bothered with trying something new: \u201cIf it works, don\u2019t fix it.\u201d But, happily, lots of people always want to fix stuff that works, to improve it, to make it more expensive, to exercise their minds and create something that is uniquely theirs or just because they have nothing better to do.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>One person who probably had nothing better to do was cinematographer Richie Trimble, who made this bike in 2014. It is more than 20 feet high and Trimble dubbed it, appropriately, the Stoopidtaller.<\/p>\n<p>The Stoopidtaller doesn\u2019t fulfil any practical bicycle purpose, such as getting you from one place to another, climbing and descending tricky mountain trails or winning the Tour de France. Its only purpose seems to be to attract attention.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-174128\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"398\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Texas custom bike shop Clyde James Cycles apparently made this bike as homage to the old and lamented VW Beetle. It took three months to make and comes complete with suicide doors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image2.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-174129\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1007\" height=\"617\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a bike whose only purpose appears to be to mess with the rider\u2019s mind by forcing the brain to think the opposite way it usually processes information and makes decisions while riding. It looks like a normal bicycle, but there\u2019s a twist, literally. When you turn the handlebars to the left, the bike turns right. Steer to the right, the bike goes left. The identity of its sadistic inventor is not known.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/Weird1.JPG.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-174132\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/Weird1.JPG.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"956\" height=\"505\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The next weird concoction is perfect for spring \u2013 because its frame has been entirely replaced with metal springs. The UK YouTuber Colin Furze invented it, for no reason at all. He says that it rides just like a normal bike, \u201cit just does weird things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image4.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-174133\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image4.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I call this one the Happy Marriage Bike. The image speaks for itself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image5.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-174134\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"685\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This bike is 117 feet long. It made it into the Guinness World Records in 2015. Some Dutchmen built it. Enough said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image6.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-174135\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image6.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"497\" height=\"327\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you like the idea of jogging, but prefer to sit down while you\u2019re doing it, this is the bike for you. Instead of tubes and tyres, this bike comes with 12 high-performance sneakers arranged into two wheels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image7.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-174136\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2019\/06\/image7.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"688\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, here\u2019s a weird bike you can actually buy: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elliptigo.com\">ElliptiGO\u2019s elliptical bikes<\/a> force you to stand up while cycling. The company claims that \u201cStand Up cycling combines the best of running, cycling and the elliptical trainer to give you a fun and effective way to exercise outdoors.
