With the sun on your face and the wind in your hair, cycling outdoors isn\u2019t a hard sell.\u00a0 Unless it\u2019s raining, it\u2019s hurricane season, or there\u2019s 2 foot of snow on the ground \u2013 in which case you may be forgiven for looking for indoor cycling venues.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That said, there are plenty of positive reasons to take your bike indoors, regardless of the weather.\u00a0 Here we look at some of the attractions that may appeal to you \u2013 regardless of what type of bike you ride\u2026<\/p>\n

Rays MTB \u2013 Cleveland, USA<\/strong><\/h2>\n

No mud, no greasy tree roots, and no rain.\u00a0 That\u2019s right \u2013 you get to use your good bike!\u00a0 But Rays MTB still has lots to offer in the way of thrills.\u00a0 There are plenty of jumps, turns, narrow gaps to aim for, as well as uneven surfaces.\u00a0 In Jeff Walker\u2019s video, you even hear a quick \u201cthat\u2019s new\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/lite-youtube>\n

So even though this is a very controlled and predictable environment, Rays is regularly being improved, inviting repeat visits.\u00a0 But it\u2019s consistent enough that you can reliably test your skills \u2013 and a great way to perfect your tune-up on the conveniently located bike tool stations before heading back outside.<\/p>\n

Manchester Velodrome \u2013 UK<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There are few environments as consistent as a velodrome, and you could convincingly argue that it offers the purest of cycling experiences.\u00a0 No crosswinds or potholes to worry about, no gears, and no handbrakes.\u00a0 Just you on a fixie.\u00a0 UK news institution The Guardian sent a mountain biker to try out track cycling.<\/p>\n<\/lite-youtube>\n

Experience days are increasingly popular, and friends of mine who\u2019ve tried track cycling for the first time are always surprised at the speeds they reach with apparently less effort.\u00a0 Even experienced road cyclists can be surprised at what they learn about aerodynamics and sustained effort \u2013 another great reason to head indoors\u2026<\/p>\n

RampAttak Indoor Skatepark \u2013 Brisbane, Australia<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sometimes the weather can be too good \u2013 we\u2019re looking at you, Australia.\u00a0 An indoor facility is a great way to avoid the sun and brush up on your BMX skills, but the allure doesn\u2019t end there.\u00a0 Before heading back outside, wooden ramps are more forgiving than concrete structures, so you can really push the envelope with speed and height.<\/p>\n<\/lite-youtube>\n

Indoor venues can also offer features that would be less practical in an outdoor facility, such as foam pits, which would be fairly grim in the rain-sodden UK environment.\u00a0 As with all indoor environments, RampAttak invites its visitors to practise their chops before unleashing themselves in the great outdoors.<\/p>\n

Virtual Velocipede<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I\u2019ve never been a fan of training bikes, and Chris Froome once revealed that the worst job he ever had was as a spin class instructor.\u00a0 And even now, I don\u2019t know if this product would tempt me, but I\u2019ve no doubt that it will appeal to someone out there.\u00a0 Behold the Veloporter!<\/p>\n<\/lite-youtube>\n
