In the 50-minute-long interview, the guys shed some light onto the speculations about Team Sky\u2019s internal problems during the 2012 Tour de France.<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=IYyHyDgXw4Q params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/IYyHyDgXw4Q\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<p>\u201cThe difficult part for me was trusting him [Wiggins] as leader,\u201d Froome admitted. \u201cGiven that in the last big race, the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a, I\u2019d gone there to support him and he fell apart in the last few days. The team turned to me and said \u2018right now you have to try and win it\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing into the Tour de France I had this in my mind. I was thinking \u2018I\u2019m doing a job for this guy, but if he falls apart in the last few days I need to be in the position to take over again.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chris was undoubtedly in a better form back then than Wiggins. During stage 11, on La Toussuire, Froome appeared to have thrown away all caution and attack. He was ordered back by the team and eventually listened. [Wiggins] has never won the Tour de France at that time. Okay I\u2019d never won it either, but there were a lot of reservations in my mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was also quite young at that time. I had more Tours to come. He was at the peak of his career, that was his year. Being part of a team you have to make sacrifices here and there. That was a sacrifice for me. I don\u2019t regret it, that\u2019s sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Froome won his first Tour the following year.
