Here\u2019s who\u2019s winning and losing.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Amaury Sport Organisation \u2013 Winners<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>I admit it \u2013 I hyped Stage 17 because of the unusual grid start. In the end, the start was pathetically uninspiring as the peloton casually reorganised itself into business as usual. But, in my defence, I did note that the AMO had decided that the final climb should approach from the same direction Aru broke Froome last year. And didn\u2019t it show?<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-controller-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Five years after his only win on Le Tour, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NairoQuinCo?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NairoQuinCo<\/a> grabs his second win on an epicly short stage ! \ud83c\udfc6\ud83c\udde8\ud83c\uddf4<br \/>Here is the summary of stage 17 \ud83d\udcfa<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TDF2018?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TDF2018<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OQeaFWPeYK\">pic.twitter.com\/OQeaFWPeYK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Tour de France\u2122 (@LeTour) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeTour\/status\/1022177258872758272?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 25, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async data-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>The AMO somehow managed to make the shortest stage in 30 years one of the most compelling and competitive stages in recent memory. I still had, in the back of my mind, the belief that any attack would be on Froome \u2013 but when Martin and Quintana\u2019s attacks were followed by Rogli\u010d\u2019s effort, it soon became apparent that Geraint Thomas seemed vulnerable too.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Chris Froome \u2013 loser<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>I\u2019ve been a fan of Froome ever since I read an interview where he confessed the worst job he ever had was as a \u201cspin class leader\u201d. But now that I\u2019ve committed this to paper I suddenly feel less confident. Froome recovered from Aru\u2019s attack \u2013 and has a history of surprise assaults.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Movistar \u2013 Winners<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Podium positions for the general classification are still up for grabs, but the team competition looks like it\u2019s certain to go to Movistar. Thomas thought about it, going with Quintana but he took the tactical decision. The Col du Portet may not be where the maillot jaune was won \u2013 but it was definitely the defining moment in the team competition.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Dutch &#8211; Winners<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Not only did Geraint \u201cG\u201d Thomas carve out time from an oxygen-starved Froome, but Dumoulin suddenly dug deep and found the resources to cross the finish line alongside Roglic. But it\u2019s the diminutive Roglic who\u2019s stolen the show and, it can\u2019t be overstated enough, is within 20 seconds of Chris Froome\u2019s 3rd place.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Footballers \u2013 Losers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Neymar take note \u2013 the hardmen of cycling could teach you a thing or two about injuries and how you cope with them. Philippe Gilbert fell down the side of a mountain.
