A bizarre accident happened in a small Czech village of Zd\u011bchov near the border with Slovakia. A local lion breeder was taking a stroll with one of his pets when a cyclist hit the young animal. The lioness was on a leash but got scared and knocked the rider off his bike. However, the cyclist and his friend claimed they were alright, and went on with their trip. Looks like end of story? Well, not really. Because not an hour later, the breeder got surrounded by 8 policemen claiming his lioness actually attacked the cyclist.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The rider in question went t<\/span>o h<\/span>ospital, so the doctors could take care of the few scratches. It was when they heard the word lio<\/span>n t<\/span>hat they naturally called the police. It turned out <\/span>later<\/span> that the cyclist <\/span>had<\/span>n<\/span>\u2019t signal<\/span>led<\/span> he was coming and <\/span>had<\/span> hit the lioness in the back. The scratches were most likely from the fall and not from the big cat. The bizarre thing about the accident is that the exaggerating rider isn<\/span>\u2019t the only bad guy in the story.<\/span><\/p>\n

Local journalists only needed to ask the first person they met to find out that the breeder doesn<\/span>\u2019t have the proper permit to keep the lions. He doesn<\/span>\u2019t even have a building permit for the enclosures. <\/span>L<\/span>ocal authorities ordered the enclosures to be torn down, but nothing has happened for the last year. <\/span>Moreover,<\/span> the authorities <\/span>cannot take the animals away because <\/span>although<\/span> the breeder doesn<\/span>\u2019t have a permit, he takes good care of the lions, so there<\/span>\u2019s no animal cruelty going on. And that<\/span>\u2019s the only thing the authorities can act on according to the current laws.<\/span><\/p>\n

It<\/span> comes as<\/span> no surprise <\/span>that <\/span>the mayor of Zd\u011bchov is trying to make the most of this story. He sees <\/span>it as <\/span>an opportunity to get rid of the trouble<\/span>some<\/span> citizen for good. There<\/span>\u2019s p<\/span>ressure on the police force to classify this a<\/span>s p<\/span>ublic safety threat and to tak<\/span>e<\/span> the breeder to court.
