full-suspension mountain bike, it\u2019s an alarming, exhilarating risk.\u00a0 On a trike, it\u2019s the entire point.\u00a0 Let\u2019s meet the drifters\u2026<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Innocent beginnings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>I was first introduced to drift trikes taking my 5-year-old nephew to a local park in 2012.\u00a0 As he climbed the jungle gym, I noticed some older kids riding around on low riding trikes.\u00a0 They weren\u2019t going particularly fast, but then *POW* they started drifting.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube something immediately arrests your attention.\u00a0 I turned to look for my nephew \u2013 he was now standing at the base of the jungle gym, staring at the drifting trikers.\u00a0 I knew then that a phenomenon was about to happen.\u00a0 But I didn\u2019t know where, and I didn\u2019t know when.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Growing up downhill<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Baldwin Street in New Zealand lays claim to The Steepest Street in The World, so it attracts cyclists for many different reasons.\u00a0 For Roadies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7W9nAdhJ_oM\">going up the street<\/a> is worth the bragging rights \u2013 but a different type of adrenaline junkie has sought it out for the gravity-induced thrill.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=poCT-eOP0mU params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/poCT-eOP0mU\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<p>Madazz bikes started making grown-up versions of the trikes I\u2019d seen with my nephew, and the type of tribalistic kit fetishism seen with skateboards, BMX, and downhill emerged along with it \u2013 and it was all in the service of something that looks like a lot of url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/XJkZ5eiqh70\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<h2><strong>The gangs of gravity<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Suddenly, anywhere with hills or mountains is now a destination for groups of drifters to gang together for the sheer fun of drifting, and each with their own inimitable style.\u00a0 Why not grab a cord with the Californian maybe you\u2019re up for some Malaysian mayhem?\u00a0 I love <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/WouZ6-dHPgA?t=1m\">this video<\/a> from Kelete for the fist bumps \u2013 it shows that drift-triking is more commercially available bikes were leisure vehicles designed for kids, a new breed of frame builders emerged.\u00a0 As performance is taken care of by gravity, frames can be built that fulfil just three qualities \u2013 they stay in one piece, they keep moving, and they look cool.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=pEGlna5juYA params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: manufacturers<\/a> are embracing this new sport.\u00a0 There are plenty of amazing drift videos you can find that we haven\u2019t included \u2013 just be conscious of the adult language used.\u00a0
