Nowadays, Danish children enjoy taster sessions in 3rd grade before taking an exam in the 6th.\u00a0 It\u2019s a metaphor for Denmark\u2019s early adoption of cycling infrastructure which started in earnest back in the 70s.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=G9U-F3_RaAw params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/G9U-F3_RaAw\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<p>Although Traffic Playgrounds have been popular in Denmark since the 50s, the F\u00e6lledparken traffic park was opened in 1974.\u00a0 In essence, a traffic playground has many features you\u2019d find on public highways \u2013 but shrunk in size for the convenience of play and exploration.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>All the things<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>At the F\u00e6lledparken Traffic Playground you can hire pedal carts, bring your own bike, \u201crent\u201d a trailer with tricycle, or simply wander around by foot.\u00a0 The real joy comes from the diversity of speeds, height, and stability.\u00a0 Even rollerbladers are welcome.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2018\/02\/16203454142_9fb210e308_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-163731\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2018\/02\/16203454142_9fb210e308_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3216\" height=\"2136\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The goal is to teach good manners and consideration, and raise awareness that other road users may have their own agendas \u2013 at different speeds.\u00a0 The playground welcomes toddlers to 14-year-olds, as well as parents.\u00a0 The smaller you are, the more attention you need to pay\u2026<\/p>\n<h2><strong>We had a dream<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Interestingly, the Danish may not have been the first to have this idea.\u00a0 Traffic playgrounds are mostly absent from the British landscape\u2026 It seems that a collective amnesia has gripped the Brits, who can lay claim to this prescient and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6xNhUi0uPXw\">inspirational video<\/a> from 1938.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=6xNhUi0uPXw params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/6xNhUi0uPXw\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<p>But truth be told, it was the Danish, not Britannia, who turned the ambitious vision of cycling utopia into a waking dream.\u00a0 In 2014, Copenhagen renewed their commitment to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oTn_nENStkk\">traffic socialisation<\/a> with a refurbishment on the 40th anniversary of the opening of the F\u00e6lledparken Traffic Playground.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cycling is such a part of Copenhagen transport that even the road markings can intimidate a visiting foreigner.\u00a0 So how [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":163730,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[330],"tags":[563,1762],"global-categories":[],"class_list":["post-163724","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-urban-cycling","tag-copenhagen","tag-faelledparken"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v25.3 (Yoast SEO v25.9) -
