bike regularly<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A clean ride makes for a happy cyclist \u2013 but not necessarily a happy bike.\u00a0 Carbon bikes still have a fair amount of metal components, and even belt drive bikes have greased bearings.\u00a0 So why bully the metal and grease with water and detergent?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2016\/10\/3311331_331313.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-143070\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2016\/10\/3311331_331313.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1375\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unless you\u2019re deliberately taking your bike through wet muddy conditions, most of the time a simple wipe-down after a ride will suffice.\u00a0 Rather than cleaning your bike after every ride, set aside some time every 6 weeks to do a careful, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5ak4AzlUz5Q\">thorough clean<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Inflate your tyres to x pressure<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>How many cyclists does it take to inflate a tyre?\u00a0 Fifteen.\u00a0 One to inflate the tyre and the other 14 to advise on why a different pressure would be uses.\u00a0 It frees sticky mechanisms, loosens rusted parts, lubricates, and drives out moisture.\u00a0 Sounds perfect for bikes, right?\u00a0 WRONG.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2018\/01\/WD40_bike.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-163213\" released a range of products <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wd40bike.com\"><em>specifically for bicycles<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 We\u2019re not picking on or promoting WD-40, we\u2019re just using them as an example of why you should always look for bike specific tools to work on your dearly beloved.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Always use a torque wrench<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While we advise using bike-specific tools, you don\u2019t always need to use the most technical equipment money can buy.\u00a0 Yes, a torque wrench is quicker, easier, and better for your frame\u2019s carbon-fibre physique than a multi-tool\u2026 but what happens if you need to adjust your saddle height 50 miles into your century?<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode-ys-post-pinup\"><article class=\"loop-simple post-147362 post same thing goes for pumping your tyres.\u00a0 Practise inflating your tyres to pressure without checking the gauge after every pump.\u00a0 You\u2019ll be grateful you learned the skill when you need it.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Using derailleur limit screws to index gears<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019ve bought your bike from a local bike shop like <a href=\"https:\/\/bike-uk.co.uk\/collections\/bikes\/road\">Bike UK<\/a> (free servicing for life) rather than a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.costco.co.uk\/view\/c\/sports-leisure\/bikes-trikes-scooters-ride-ons\">big-box store<\/a>, it\u2019s more likely to have been set up by a professional bike mechanic.\u00a0 href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pgHKRXPctm8\">cassette<\/a> for signs of wear.\u00a0 Respect the limits of your knowledge and, if in doubt, sign up to bike maintenance lessons at your
