The only other time you should seriously consider it is if you feel you\u2019ve got enough gas in the tank to drop your group.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Grinding<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There is something wrong with a little bump and grind &#8211; primarily that it over stresses your muscles in a way that brings little long-term benefit. Shimano recommend lower gearing and spinning, for long periods climbing. Combine intervals with climbing and you\u2019ll do an hours-worth of training in 20 minutes, freeing up time to pursue your other passions.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tensing up and feeling the stress<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When you\u2019re new to climbing, a big hill can be daunting \u2013 be careful not to let that stress translate into tense limbs. The quickest way to assess whether you\u2019re tensing up on the climb is check your hands. That means plenty of planks, push ups, and pilates \u2013 the better your core strength, the more relaxed you\u2019ll be on the climb.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Forgetting to refuel<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It literally happens to the best of us.
