A particularly creative one was installed at an intersection in Omaha, Nebraska, where a group of bicycling advocates used toilet plungers wrapped in a reflective tape to separate the bike lane from the traffic.<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe plan was to leave them out for 36 hours so people could see what a protected bike lane could do,\u201d one of the advocates, Stuart Nottingham, said to the Omaha World-Herald.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-controller-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Group glues 120 toilet plungers onto Omaha street to show what a protected bike lane could do <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5XHamPfqwC\">https:\/\/t.co\/5XHamPfqwC<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sxr5d31HIU\">pic.twitter.com\/sxr5d31HIU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Omaha World-Herald (@OWHnews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OWHnews\/status\/864851251887919104?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 17, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async data-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>A sign at the site of several car-on-car collisions read, \u201cPlungers for a Safer Aksarben\u201d. The victory was short-lived though because the city workers removed the plungers just four hours after they had been installed. The officials stated later that the city had no plans to add protected bike lanes. The plan didn\u2019t work out quite well in the end, but creating of guerrilla bike lanes is becoming more and more successful.<\/p>\n<p>For example in Wichita, Kansas, local cyclists deployed toilet plungers along one of the intersections in the Old Town, and the officials took the hint. They removed the plungers and replaced them with professionally installed vertical barriers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_161705\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-161705\" style=\"width: 1140px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2017\/10\/030817bikelane_jg1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-161705 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2017\/10\/030817bikelane_jg1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1140\" height=\"712\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-161705\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wichita, Kansas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhat we were really trying to do was just highlight the issue. We just wanted to get some recognition that there is a problem here, and there\u2019s a pretty simple solution,\u201d Alex Pemberton, the group\u2019s organizer, said back in February.<\/p>\n<p>Is this the way?
