The cars provided by \u0160koda covered 2.8 million kilometres during the 2016 Tour, in a fleet of 250 cars \u2013 a motorcade that would make any President blush with envy. So, what do all these cars do?<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Yellow Neutral Service Vehicles<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If your bike suffers a mechanical failure you need a car that\u2019s easy to spot in a crowded field, and help appears as a \u0160koda OCTAVIA with a yellow paint job and Mavic decals &#8211; they\u2019re big enough to carry water, wheels, and entire bikes in case of emergency.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_152242\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-152242\" style=\"width: 1250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2017\/06\/profimedia-0294076251.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-152242 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2017\/06\/profimedia-0294076251.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1250\" height=\"833\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-152242\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Christopher Froome is given a bicycle from the Team Sky support car after crashing during the 12th stage of the 103rd edition of the Tour de France cycling race over 178km between Montpellier and Mont Ventoux, France, 14 July 2016.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2010, Jens Voigt crashed his bike so badly it was beyond repair \u2013 he grabbed a Mavic bike from atop the nearest yellow \u0160koda, and even though it was several sizes too small for him, the bike was enough to keep him in the race.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Race Director Red<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As you may expect, Christian Prudhomme rides in \u0160koda\u2019s flagship model, the SUPERB \u2013 although this particular car is unique. Prudhomme\u2019s Superb has a custom-made sunroof to accommodate various duties of the race director, including waving the flag at the start of each stage to signal the official start of racing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2017\/06\/PML1113-1024x695.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-152240\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2017\/06\/PML1113-1024x695.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"695\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The red SUPERB also comes with special holders for champagne flutes and a bespoke communication system, so Prudhomme can toast the successes of the riders as well as keep in touch with the teams.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Communication, agility, and safety<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Apart from Mavic\u2019s neutral support vehicles, there are two cars per team that follow the peloton. The order in which these cars follow the race is determined by the ranking of each team\u2019s leading rider.<\/p>\n<p>Prudhomme will keep in touch with the fleet of cars, most of which are OCTAVIAs, and share information about the race.
