Macdonald Parkway without risk of injury.\u00a0 So why has he taken to wearing a T-shirt with USE YOUR BELL written across the back?<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mr Angus told CBC\u2019s Ottawa Morning programme that on a clear morning, on an uncrowded shared-use pathway, a bike smashed into him from behind.\u00a0 When the cyclist realised that she\u2019d injured him she was distraught and admitted it was her fault and, \u201c\u2026she had her head down, didn\u2019t even see me\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-143310\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2016\/10\/murray-angus-broken-wrist-path-use-bell-cyclists-ottawa.jpg\" alt=\"murray-angus-broken-wrist-path-use-bell-cyclists-ottawa\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Recovering from his broken wrist, Angus became increasingly aware of how infrequently cyclists used their bells.\u00a0 Angus took the matter in his hand and made his T-shirt to encourage locals to use their bells to warn passing pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p>Ontario\u2019s Highway Traffic Act states every bicycle must be equipped with a bell, gong, or horn and to use it, \u201cwhenever it is reasonably necessary to notify pedestrians or others of [your] approach\u201d, so Angus is simply encouraging cyclists to act in the spirit of the law to avoid collisions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-143309\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2016\/10\/murray-angus-use-bell-cyclist-tshirt-path-ottawa.jpg\" alt=\"murray-angus-use-bell-cyclist-tshirt-path-ottawa\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Angus reports that the response is mostly positive, with local cyclist Kringen Henein quoted as saying it\u2019s a \u201cgood idea\u201d to let people know you won\u2019t be offended if they ding you as they pass.\u00a0 But if a cyclist has their head down and doesn\u2019t see you, would they have time to read your shirt?\u00a0 Let us know what you think.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All Murray Angus wants to do is go for a walk along the Sir John A.
