The ones who are against mandatory helmets legislation argue that wearing a helmet encourages risk-taking behaviour or that it does not actually reduce the risk of serious injury to the brain. The latest study done by Australians strongly disagrees though.<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The researchers from the University of New South Wales conducted a study in which more than 64,000 cyclists have participated. And the results are very clear. According to Australians helmets reduce the risks of a serious head injury by nearly 70 per cent. The chances of a fatal head injury are reduced by 65 per cent. Plus, the researches claim that neck injuries are in no way caused by wearing a helmet.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-142915\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2016\/09\/profimedia-0297436025.jpg\" alt=\"general plan rider a cyclist riding along a forest trail during Regional competitions on cross-country bicycle\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1199\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese results suggest that strategies to increase the uptake of bicycle helmets should be considered along with other injury-prevention strategies as part of a comprehensive cycling safety plan. Irrespective of past research, the results of this review do not support arguments against helmet legislation from an injury prevention perspective,\u201c said the researchers at this week\u00b4s Safety 2016 convention in Finland.<\/p>\n<p>The critics are still not convinced though.
