The Dutch pro Annemiek van Vleuten was in a 30-second lead in the final 12km of the women\u2019s road race when she crashed on the Vista Chinesa descent. Everybody was worried about her condition, but she was reportedly conscious while being transported to the hospital.<\/strong>
\n<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old, like Vincenzo Nibali and Sergio Henao in the men\u2019s race one day prior, crashed on the descent, and according to NOS.nl, suffered \u2019severe concussion and three fractures to her spine\u2019.<\/p>\n

Van Vleuten\u2019s teammate Anna van der Breggen went on to claim the gold, beating Sweden\u2019s Emma Johansson and Italy\u2019s Elisa Longo Borghini.<\/p>\n

While most of us would probably be worried about our own health, Annemiek is mostly disappointed with the result of the race. We can understand that, but the \u2019will be fine\u2019 part of her tweet is what we were happy to read most of all.<\/p>\n
