Be comfortable in your body<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you\u2019re getting back on your bike to lose excess weight, it\u2019s important you feel comfortable \u2013 don\u2019t think that it\u2019s compulsory to buy a skin tight top.\u00a0 In fact, if you need the exercise, a loose top will make you work harder and improve your fitness quicker.\u00a0 Many budget ranges from shops like Aldi, Decathlon, and Evans offer looser, easy, and comfortable fits for this reason.\u00a0 You can always opt into the skin tight brigade once you\u2019ve achieved your dream beach body.\u00a0 Until then, take a look at something like the Adidas Response Plures jersey.<\/p>\n

Dance to the fabric<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Personally,<\/p>\n

The two types of fabrics for cycling jerseys are synthetic and wool, and they\u2019re both great for different reasons.\u00a0 Synthetic material is cheaper, so manufacturers use words like Profila, Windstopper, and Thermoflex to reassure you their proprietary fabrics create better results.\u00a0 In practice, they\u2019ll all protect you from a chilly wind, won\u2019t overheat your body, and they\u2019ll all wick moisture away from your skin.\u00a0 Personally, I prefer merino wool on any ride below 15 degrees \u2013 it performs better than synthetic material, offers natural UV protection, and due to the naturally occurring antibacterial lanolin your clothes won\u2019t smell as bad as your synthetic jerseys after a day in the saddle.\u00a0 You pay more for wool, but check out Giant Col\u2019s great value merino jersey.<\/p>\n

What are you packing?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Rule<\/p>\n

Rule 31 states that spare tubes, multi-tools and repair kits should be stored in jersey pockets – so make sure your jersey has enough pockets for the length of your ride.\u00a0 My Rapha polo shirt is great for nipping into town but doesn\u2019t have enough pockets for the tools I\u2019d need to make repairs 40 miles from the nearest bike shop.\u00a0 My girlfriend has a great Gore Element jersey designed specifically for women and she swears by it \u2013 she has enough room for tools and plenty of space for mid-ride snacks.<\/p>\n

Style doesn\u2019t matter \u2013 until it does<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Cars,<\/p>\n

Cars, motorbikes, and pedestrians don\u2019t need a fluorescent yellow colour scheme and neither do you.\u00a0 If you\u2019re cycling at dusk or night, put lights on your bike and wear what you want.\u00a0 If you want to show your support for MTN-Qhubeka, stop reading and buy their jersey \u2013 but for everyone else, choose a style you\u2019d be comfortable wearing off your bike at the end of the ride.\u00a0 Rapha notoriously charge a fortune for pared back style but, unlike a dayglow spandex jersey, their Special Edition Classic won\u2019t turn heads at the urinal of your local pub.\u00a0 There\u2019s something to be said for that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
