Germany will host the Grand D\u00e9part for the first time since 1987.\u00a0<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>London was in the race for the start as well but it pulled the plug in September just days before the initial announcement because of the excessive fees of roughly 10 million US dollars that go with such a big event. Officials announced they prefer to spend this kind of money on a permanent cycling infrastructure rather than a one-time affair.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2016\/01\/12525462_948972181818828_7056084843440519653_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-133002\" src=\"https:\/\/d2p6e6u75xmxt8.cloudfront.net\/2\/2016\/01\/12525462_948972181818828_7056084843440519653_o-600x678.jpg\" alt=\"The map of the first stage.\" width=\"600\" height=\"678\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 2017 Tour will begin outside French borders for the 22<sup>nd<\/sup> time. Germany hosted the Tour`s start four times in total with the last time being in West Berlin in 1987.
