Tadej Poga\u010dar (UAE Team Emirates) won Saturday\u2019s final Monument of the season, Il Lombardia, for the fourth year in succession, tying the record of the great Fausto Coppi. Olympic road race and time trial champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal\u2013Quick Step) finished second, 3:16 adrift, with Lidl-Trek\u2019s Giulio Ciccone coming third, at 4:31.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He pedals head and shoulders above all his rivals, including fellow superstar Evenepoel. His four victories also tie Alberto Binda<\/a> for second-most victories in the race, behind Coppi\u2019s five wins. If Poga\u010dar wins next year \u2013 and there is no one who seems able to challenge him if he stays healthy \u2013 he will have his hands on both records.<\/p>\n

He began his winning move with 48.5km left to race on the 255km course from Bergamo to Como. About halfway up the climb of the Colma di Serrano (12.9km @ 6.5%), just as the peloton caught what remained of a 21-rider breakaway, he rocketed out of the bunch and no one could react. Evenepoel and Enric Mas (Movistar) soon took up the chase, but 1km later the gap was already at 24 seconds.<\/p>\n
