So, what did you miss?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Gilbert\u2019s final year<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The 39-year-old has raced for the past two decades. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/2022\/01\/07\/philippe-gilbert-on-his-final-season-i-want-to-be-there-in-the-final-of-a-big-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philippe Gilbert<\/a> won four out of the five Monuments in the process. He first won the Il Lombardia in 2009 and then again in 2010. He followed up with Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge in 2011 before a six-year wait to finally win the Tour of Flanders in 2017. We all still remember the 2019 triumph at Paris-Roubaix getting him within a shot of the full set. A feat only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/2021\/06\/30\/the-fall-of-eddy-merckx-the-greatest-tour-de-france-champion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eddy Merckx,<\/a> Roger De Vlaeminck, and Rik Van Looy accomplished. He shall now chase the last Monument in his final season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m going for that missing win in Milan-San Remo,&#8221; Gilbert told RTBF, &#8220;because I know how special a win in San Remo is. That gives an extra dimension to my career. However, I am not only focusing on this race. I know how difficult it is to win there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very motivated to end my career in a positive way. It is nice to be able to do all the races in which I have had so many good moments once again.
